Assento Grave.
Accented Seat.
This is the title of the new series of embroidery in the arts, as a sequence to the research in a larger project on Subversive Embroidery. There is here a visual and orthographic pun embedded between the Portuguese words acento (a graphic mark that indicates stress) and assento (seat). However, in my view, the gravity of an accent is in the eyes of those who read and see it. As they say, decipher me or I will devour you!
In my eyes, Accented Seat has more of criticism, debauchery and humor, than of aggressiveness, since violence and gravity are in the chaos of everything out there! But the word has strength and I have embroidered spellings, words and expressions that have been screamed and shouted all around.
Accented Seat, in its padded form, serves as an offering, an allusion to Macanese patois, a creole saying that works for protection or as part of a worship ritual, and it can be used as it fits you - in times of social isolation!
Accented Seat, is a charm, big or small, a queer offering, with words of luck and a lot of axé, a fagot patois, that translate the feelings of such individuals who are tired of homophobias, transphobias, structural racism, violence and death!
